If you haven’t read Part 1Part 2Part 3, and Part 4, you may want to do so before reading Part 5.

God smiles when we use our abilities

Shortly after the flood, God told Noah,

“Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth…Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.” Genesis 9: 1, 3 (NIV)

In other words, God said live your life as I intended for humans to live. That is, enjoy your spouse, make babies, raise a family, eat the fruit of the land, and work.

A large part of the human population makes the mistake, including myself, of thinking that God is not concerned with your life apart from “spiritual” activities – like studying your bible, going to church, attending prayer & bible study meetings, or sharing your testimony to encourage other people.

…but read Psalms 37: 23 (NLT)

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

The scripture says, “the Lord directs”, meaning God is active in your daily lives. The bible didn’t say when you attend prayer meetings, or when you give your testimony, it simple says, “the Lord directs.”

Webster’s dictionary gives the definition of “direct” as,

“3, with nothing between; immediately; 4, in an unbroken line…”

Webster’s dictionary also gives the definition of “delight” as,

“1, to give great pleasure; 2, to be highly pleased”

Actually, God watches every detail of your life; he doesn’t miss a single move you make.

This means, “every human activity, except sin, can be done for God’s pleasure, if you do it with an attitude of praise.” Rick Warren, Purpose Driven Life

Since God is our spiritual father, I’m sure God delights when we use our abilities, he created us, and he watches us.

  • We don’t bring pleasure to God by hiding our abilities.
  • We don’t bring pleasure trying to be someone that God created us not to be.
  • We bring pleasure by being who God created us to be.

“Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘what are you making?’ or ‘your work has no handles’?” Isaiah 45: 9 (ESV)

  • God enjoys watching his creation fully use their abilities.
  • God is looking for people who want to use their abilities.
  • God was looking then when he built the ark through Noah and he’s looking now.

My question to you is,

“Will you use your abilities, because God smiles when you use your abilities?”
